  • Simulation of Finishing Effects

Modern packaging increasingly features complex finishing effects like spot varnishes or embossing. Even simple products like aluminum lidding foils or folding cartons made from recycling materials are inline finished today. This increasingly creates problems in proofing or prototyping, as these effects could not be reproduced. On the other hand, these effects have a significant impact on the appearance of a product, or lead to colour shifts in printing, when using, for instance, matte varnishes.

For the first time, it is now possible to perfectly simulate these effects accurately registered on a proof or dummy, thanks to the ORIS Varnish and Embossing Option. Using a custom punch and precision register system, prints, printed with ORIS Flex Pack // Web on the Roland VSi printers, can then be fi nished on a Roland VersaUV LEF-200/300 printer, also controlled by the system. Even delicate matte or gloss spot varnishes can be produced, as well as using multiple layers of clear ink to simulate embossing and 3D textures. Thanks to the ORIS software, density and thickness of the varnish can be exactly controlled.

  • Foil blocking

The FlexPack software allows us to slow the curing of the Varnish to leave it tacky, sheets of foil can then be applied and the excess removed to give Foil Blocking.

  • Custom printing bed with registration pinsCustom printing bed with registration pins

The print from a VSi/XR-640 is placed on our Punch Table and register holes are punched. These correspond with the pins on the bed allowing for accurate registration of both varnish and foil to be applied.

This same registration system allows us to re-register the foiled print and overprint if required.
